PGMA urges Japanese and Filipino businessmen to invest under JPEPA framework

TOKYO,
June 21 (PNA/OPS) -– President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo urged Japanese
and Filipino businessmen Friday (June 19) to take advantage of
opportunities under the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership
Agreement (JPEPA) by expanding their investments in the Philippines,
particularly in the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector.
The
President issued the call during a luncheon meeting with members of the
Philippine Japan Economic Cooperation (PHILJEC) and the
Japan-Philippines Economic Cooperation Committee (JPEC).
Among
those present were Finance Secretary Margarito Teves, National Economic
and Development Authority (NEDA) Director General and Planning
Secretary Ralph Recto, Trade Secretary Peter Favila, Bangko Sentral ng
Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Amado Tetangco Jr.,
The
President thanked the large Japanese corporations for their investments
in the Philippines and expressed hope they will continue to expand and
show more interest in the SME sector in the country.
With
JPEPA, the President said both Japanese and Filipino investors can
derive many benefits from the importation of various Philippine
products, services and important raw materials as well as exports of
industrial inputs from Japan. (PNA/OPS)
