Bacolod PESO opens 1,852 summer job positions

BACOLOD CITY, March 18 (PNA) - The Bacolod City Public Employment and Services Office (Peso) is planning to hire 1,852 summer job workers this year for the special program for the employment of students (SPES) in the city.

Peso head Moises De La Cruz said they would hire 1,852 summer job workers the hiring of which kicked off as early as February.

De La Cruz cited that last year, the city government had 911 summer jobs, but the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reduced this to 500, which is only applicable for 15-25 years old students, “the out of school youth is not covered of said program, which the city government has a different programs for the out of school youth in the city.”

“The 1,852 summer jobs are not enough with the high number of students still applying for the program,” De La Cruz said.

He said the orientations will start on April 8, the program will be from April 12 to May 2010.

De La Cruz said the city government allotted almost P4 million for the summer jobs with each student expected to receive P200 daily.

Meanwhile, De La Cruz added the scholarship program of the city government is still open for Bacolod City students, noting that about 96 scholars are graduating this school year. (PNA)
