Business groups to lead war vs climate change and global warming
BACOLOD
CITY, June 19 (PNA) - Four major business organizations in this city
will sign a Green Business Covenant Against Climate Change and Global
Warming to mark the opening of the 17th Provincial Environment Week
(PEW) on June 22.
These
are the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI), the
Bacolod Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BFCCCI),
Amity Club (AI), and the Association of Filipino-Indian of Negros
Occidental (AFINO).
MBCCI
President for Internal Affairs Frank Carbon acknowledged that
businesses are the major waste generators thus it is also proper that
they will lead the war against climate change and global warming.
Carbon,
who is also the chairman of the PEW Program Advisory Committee, said by
signing the covenant, the business communities commit to implement in
their respective companies the environmental programs that will help
combat the ill effects of climate change and global warming.
He
said the covenant contains programs on water conservation and waste
water management, office planning and design, solid waste management,
urban gardening, and energy conservation.
He added the members of their organizations will issue memorandum to their employees to follow the provisions in the covenant.
There
will also be a committee to evaluate the compliance of the employees of
each business and positive reinforcements like giving of award to those
who are complying with the covenant, he added.
The
signatories will be MBCCI President Roberto Montelibano, BFCCCI
President Benjamin Ortega, AI President Luis Chan, and AFINO Director
Harish Nandwani.
Governor Isidro Zayco and Vice Governor Emilio Yulo III will sign as witnesses.
The covenant signing is in line with the PEW theme, “Global Warming: If You Care, Do Your Share.”
Zayco
said the earth’s climate is changing and greenhouses gases are
accumulating as a result of destructive human activities.(PNA)
