City to adopt new garbage collection scheme
ILOILO
CITY, July 30 (PNA) – The city government here will adopt the garbage
collection scheme that was found to be effective in Japan likewise in
the cities of Marikina and Quezon in the Philippines.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog announced Wednesday that the city
“will forego the use of barangay material recovery facility (MRF)” and
instead a new collection scheme will be adopted.
The MRF, according to Mabilog, instead of serving its
purpose has become eyesores if the garbage will be left uncollected.
Under the new collection scheme, all recyclables will be
collected during Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays while
Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays will be the collection day for
biodegradables.
A truck will collect garbage based on the assigned date
unlike before when the collection of bio and non-biodegradable wastes
was done daily.
He added that the technical working group of the Solid Waste
Management Board (SWMB) will have to meet and discuss the
implementation which is initially slated middle of August.
It will be implemented first at the City Proper district,
especially the central business district (CBS) and from there it will be
refined for its citywide implementation.
“Hopefully this can help in the efficiency of waste
segregation at the Calajunan (dumpsite),” the mayor said. (PNA)
