ILOILO CITY, Oct 9 (PNA) – The rising concern on the possible impact of the financial crisis in the United States to the local financial scene has prompted the city government and the Iloilo Business Club (IBC) here to call for an economic briefing dubbed as ‘Challenging Times, Discovering Opportunities’ this coming Friday.

Ma. Victoria Lara, executive director of the IBC, said distinguished roster of speakers already confirmed their participation to the one afternoon event that will be held at the Sunset Terrace of the Grand Ballroom of Hotel del Rio here.

Lara said Dr. Emilio Antonio, Jr. from the University of Asia and the Pacific and famous financial expert Francisco Colayco, author of the bestseller book, Wealth Within Your Reach Series, will talk on financial possibilities.

“The briefing for the first time will bring together seven regional directors to provide the local business community, the academe, local government units, civic clubs and professional organizations with information on the regional situationer,” she said.

To share on the topic regional prospects are regional directors of the National Economic and Development Authority, Ro-Ann Bacal; Agriculture, Larry Nacionales; Tourism, Edwin Trompeta; Trade and Industry, Dominic Abad; Labor and Employment, Aida Estabillo; Public Works and Highways, Rolando Asis and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Job Nepomuceno.

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said it would be better if the ‘economic turmoil and its effect to the local industry’ is understood.

“Definitely, the US, being the world’s biggest economy, will affect foreign investments here in the Philippines,” Treñas said. (PNA)
