Neg. Or. celebrates holidays with Pinaskuhan Sayawit Festival

CITY, Dec. 5 (PNA)-- The province of Negros Oriental celebrates
Christmas with the annual Pinaskuhan Sayawit Festival that will kick
off on December 13 and will formally culminate on January 1, 2009.
Board
Member Mariant Escano-Villegas, chairperson of the Committee on Culture
and Arts, said the Pinaskuhan Sayawit Festival activities shall be held
at the Sidlakang Negros Village.
The Pinaskuhan Festival includes the Sayawit, Parol and Dayan-dayan competitions.
At
present, the local government units (LGUs) that have confirmed
participation for the Sayawit are Tayasan, Dumaguete, Bayawan, San
Jose, Santa Catalina, Sibulan and Mabinay.
The first place winner will receive P60,000, second place will get P50,000 and P40,000 for the 3rd place winner.
Cash prizes are also at stake for entries to the Parol or Christmas lantern and Dayan-dayan or Christmas décor competitions.
Lantern and decors must be made from indigenous and native materials. (PNA)
