BACOLOD CITY, Oct. 10 (PNA) -- Vice Governor Emilio Yulo III assured Negrenses of enough supply of rice both from commercial traders and the National Food Authority (NFA).

Yulo’s pronouncement came following the onslaught of tropical storm Ondoy and typhoon Pepeng that affected over four million Filipinos with Luzon as the hardest hit or 829,498 families, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said.

The estimated cost of damage to infrastructure and agriculture caused by the Philippines' worst flooding in four decades has also increased to P9.7 billion, the NDCC added.

Yulo said that calamity funds have been readied for the province and respective local government units (LGUs) use in case calamities would hit the province.

Several areas in southern Negros Occidental were also flooded due to Ondoy that spawned heavy rains that forced several families to vacate their houses and sought refuge in high areas.

However, no landslides, fatalities and casualties were reported as a result of the two howlers, except that several houses were damaged. (PNA)
