PCIC pays P2M for claims of farmers affected by El Niño in Iloilo
ILOILO
CITY, March 13 (PNA) – The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation has
disbursed some P2.021 million to 398 farmers who were hit by the El Niño
phenomenon in Iloilo.
PCIC director for Region 6 Charlito Brilleta said a huge
chunk of claims worth P1.4 million went to 255 rice farmers from Iloilo.
The area covered by the insurance was about 388 hectares of
rice plantation.
Meanwhile, 76 corn farmers also received their claim
totaling P282,000. The insured affected areas mostly from the town of
Sara were about 11 hectares.
Brilleta added that the agency only covers farmers with
irrigated lands because effective Aug 1 they no longer accommodate
farmers in rainfed areas.
To date he added that they are still processing 35 pending
applications as they also validate other areas that were insured to be
able to estimate the amount that they have to release. (PNA)
