PGMA to launch major Visayas-Mindanao SRNH link tomorrow
SAMBOAN,
Cebu, Nov. 21 (PNA) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will launch on
Saturday (November 21) a major link of the Strong Republic Nautical
Highway (SRNH) that will merge the central seaboard in the Visayas to
the western seaboard in Mindanao.
The
President will send off the maiden voyage of the Lite Shipping
Corporation's roll on/roll off (RO-RO) vessels that will depart from
Barangay San Sebastian here to Palauan Port in Dapitan City, Zamboanga
del Norte.
The Lite Shipping Corporation's route will link Cebu province to Northern Mindanao.
On the other hand, the Santander Express RO-RO vessels will ply the Cebu-Sibulan (Negros Oriental) route.
The
SRNH, a major infrastructure project of the Arroyo administration,
includes the Eastern Nautical Highway, Central Nautical Highway and the
Western Nautical Highway.
It is touted as the ''highways of the sea'' linking the islands through roads, bridges and the use of RO-RO vessels.
Through
the SRNH, the transport of goods, especially agricultural produce, as
well as the movement of people, has become faster, more efficient and
cheaper.
After
the completion of the three seaboards, the President has planned to
enhance the nautical highways by linking them with one another in a
move to achieve seamless movement of goods and people in the entire
archipelago. (PNA)
