POEA to orient job applicants abroad
ZAMBOANGA
CITY, Oct. 3 (PNA) -- Prospective jobseekers are expected to troop to
the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration regional office these
days as the POEA-IX will conduct a series of seminar workshop aimed to
brief applicants on what to do when deployed to their respective
destinations abroad.
POEA-IX
regional director Renegold Macarulay has advised job applicants for
employment abroad to attend a pre-employment orientation to get rid of
possible problems while they are away from the country.
“Most
importantly, they should be able to note if their recruitment agencies
are legitimate or not to avoid perennial employment problems among OFWs
from recurring”, he stressed.
Macarulay said the most vulnerable workers falling prey on abusive employers are domestic helpers and entertainers.
“I
am appealing to job seekers to come and visit our office on Veterans
Avenue near DOLE regional office to attend our pre-orientation seminar
to arm themselves on the pros and cons in working abroad”, he added.
“We
don’t want them to become victims of fixers and illegal recruiters
around. That is why the POEA is very strict in the deployment of
workers abroad”, he stated.
According
to him laborers must be prepared to work on extended hours and must
possess multiple skills to safeguard their entry to another country in
case one job fails, a fallback option is available.
“An
electrician should have other skills like plumbing or driving as this
would truly help him when one job falters”, he stressed. An
agency accredited by the POEA is recruiting skilled workers such as
bakers, office workers, painters, welders, cooks, drivers, agriculture
workers, managers, supervisors, IT programmers and many others for
Kuwait, Malaysia and Dubai. (PNA)
