DAVAO
CITY, Jan. 11 (PNA) -- The Regional Development Council (RDC) in the
Davao Region is benchmarking on activities that would deliver projects
to benefit the mass majority.
RDC chair Vicente Lao said they would look at projects that will bring down poverty incidence in the region.
"It won't matter to me if we would not be gaining high for as long as we could reduce the incidence of poverty," he said.
He said it is no longer effective when poverty incidence is increasing.
However,
he did not give figures he said the government will again conduct the
survey this year because it comes every three years.
He
said the RDC has also pushed for the "One Town, One Product" where it
is designed to cater to livelihood opportunities in the countryside.
Lao
also said RDC is guided by the Medium Term Philippine Development Plan
(MTPDP) that includes infrastructure projects of the region.
He said these infra projects are already programmed while others are ongoing and some expected to be finished.
He said among the road networks are that of Davao Oriental that will connect to Surigao provinces.
Meanwhile, Lao said he also supports the proposed railway project because it is the cheapest way to move goods around. (PNA)
