Saranggani donates bus to SC for its ‘Justice on Wheel’ program
MANILA, Dec 1 (PNA)---The Saranggani provincial government has donated a bus
to augment the Supreme Court's (SC) “Justice on Wheels” (JOW) program.
The
bus worth around P900,000 was formally turned over to SC Chief Justice
Reynato S. Puno and JOW chairperson Associate Justice Consuelo
Ynares-Santiago during a simple turn over rites at the Alabel Gymnasium
with Saranggani governor Miguel Rene A. Dominquez late this week.
Chief
Justice Puno said that the bus is the first mobile court funded by a
local government unit (LGU) and will be deployed at Saranggani
primarily to assist local courts there in the expeditious resolution of
docketed cases, reduce the number jail prisoners and altogether bring
the judiciary closer to the people of the province.
Saranggani’s donation effectively increases the “JOW” bus fleet from three to four mobile court platforms.
The Chief Justice visited Saranggani’s capital of Alabel to inaugurate the launching of the SC’s “JOW” project there.
During
the launching, Sarranggani barangay officials were briefed about the
value of court annexed mediation (CAM) and judicial dispute resolution
(JDR) in resolving small claims.
The
SC also gave residents and officials an overview of environmental and
fisheries laws and indigenous people’s act as well as free legal advise
and medical aid. Chief
Justice Puno stated that these partly encompass SC’s “Increasing Access
to Justice Program” which seeks to increase access to justice
especially by the poor and marginalized sectors of society. (PNA)
