Complete science laboratories to be established in two public schools in Iloilo City

ILOILO CITY, Oct 1 (PNA) – Two complete science laboratory schools will be established in two public schools here to spark the interest of students in learning more about sciences.

This was confirmed by Division of Iloilo City Schools Supt. Dr. Erlinda Gencaya, adding that the project is included in the 2009 budget of the Department of Education (DepEd).

One laboratory will be established at the SPED-Integrated School for Exceptional Children which can cater to its elementary and high school students and other nearby schools.

Another laboratory will also be put up at the Iloilo City National High School in Molo district.

Dr. Gencaya said that they looked forward to establishing two laboratory schools each year or at least one complete laboratory in one big district school of each district to cater to all public schools within the area.

“If they can manipulate with the equipment, they could see, they could feel, they could touch, they will be given hands-on experience which will make their learning more effective,” she said.

At present, she said that the city’s 52 elementary schools and 11 high schools have a laboratory that is lacking in equipment.

Meanwhile, she also lauded the City Boy and Girl officials last week for passing a resolution calling for the establishment of laboratories in all public high schools in the city. (PNA)
