3,000 participants expected in Olongapo's 'Alay Lakad'

OLONGAPO CITY, Sept. 25 (PNA) -- About 3,000 participants are expected to join the 'Alay Lakad' 2008 at the Rizal Triangle Multi-Purpose Center to end at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone Boardwalk on October 5, 2008.

The 2008 Alay Lakad Executive Committee, led by Zambales Vice Gov. Anne Marie Gordon of the Soroptomist International, has laid out the activities in the campaign to raise funds for the organization's social projects for Olongapoʼs youth, particularly scholarship grants.

The income generating activities lined-up include a bingo social game, raffle, distribution of stickers, t-shirt printing and placing donation boxes in different business establishments in the city.

The bingo social game will be held on September 30 at the Plenary Hall of the Olongapo City Convention Center (OCCC). The organization is also currently distributing raffle tickets and stickers and selling souvenir t-shirts as additional source of funds of the foundation.

The donation boxes can be found in 10 different business establishments around the city. The Olongapo-Subic Bankers Association (OSBBA) also confirmed that they will be placing 29 donation boxes in 28 different banks around Olongapo and Subic Bay Freeport Zone (SBFZ).

This year's Alay Lakad will be joined by government officials, civic groups, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) employees, locators and Department of Education here, which is expected to have the biggest delegation.

After the actual walk, a program will be held where recognition will be given to the outstanding participants. Awards include the chairman's award, highest contributor (individual and group), earliest contributor (individual and group), biggest delegation, most disciplined group, most colorful group and youngest participant.

Olongapo City Mayor James Gordon Jr. and Alay Lakad Chair Anne Marie will also be awarding certificates to the five 5 individuals and organizations for their support for the organization's activities and programs.

Alay Lakad Foundation has already been instrumental in giving a brighter future to many of Olongapo's youth because of their continuing assistance to the gifted but are unable to continue their education because of financial difficulties. (PNA)
