MANILA, Oct. 16 (PNA) -- In celebration of the 16th National Children’s Month, several “little city officials” of Marikina were given an opportunity to “run” the City Hall from October 16-17.

City Mayor Marides Fernando said the undertaking aims to inculcate in the youth the value of leadership and community service.

Fernando and other officials, from congressmen to councilors, relinquish their posts for at least a day to give way to the "little mayor, little congressmen and little councilors" who will conduct various meetings and sessions for the welfare of the children of the city.

A statement from the Marikina City Public Information Office said the children were selected from various public schools in the city and would act on the civic duties to make them responsible children to make them aware of the policies for today's youth as well as that of their rights.

The said two-day little mayor will be held today with Fernando handing over the seat to Raicer Gabriel from Concepcion Integrated School who would serve as the "little mayor."

Mico Carmelo from the Marikina Elementary School would serve as the vice mayor.

The 1st District Congressman will be taken over by Mark Lhorenz Reyes from L. Victorino Elementary School.

The councilors for the said district will be led by Dianne Jhazzel Valencia, San Roque Elementary School; Prencyl Orven Abueg, Kalumpang Elementary School; Raina Victorioso, Barangka Elementary School; John Michael Abat, Industrial Valley Elementary School; Kelden Laguting, Malanday Elementary School; and Justin Lumbo, Saint Mary Elementary School.

Joshua Virtucio from Kapt. Moy Elementary School takes over the post for 2nd District Congressman of the city.

Kimberly Samson, Parang Elementary School leads the second district councilors. Also with her Desiree Lim, Nangka Elementary School; Danelin Inocente, Hermogenes Bautista Elementary School; Micah Joy Campas, SSS Village Elementary School and Kristine Anne Requiline, Concepcion Elementary School.

Fernando said the city government will continue to give the important projects that inculcate the value of leadership and community service.

She will tackle the steps that the city government had undertaken recently to promote children’s physical, intellectual, emotional, and social well being, and outline her plans for furthering her vision to create a child-friendly city.

“Pagpupugay at pagpapahalaga sa ginagampanang papel ng mga bata sa ating siyudad ay nagpapatibay sa maraming Gawain at proyekto ng Lungsod. Muling naisagawa ang may kinalaman sa karapatang MABUHAY, MAKAPAG-ARAL, MAKIBAHAGI AT MAPANGALAGAAN sila laban sa abuso at pagsasamantala,” she stressed.

This year’s National Children’s Month theme is “Bright Child: Sa Tamang Pag-aaruga, Kinabukasan ay Maginhawa.” (PNA)
