Provincial health office warns public to be conscious of their water and food intake

ILOILO CITY, March 5 (PNA) -– The public has been warned to be cautious of their water and food intake to prevent heat-related diseases spawned by long summer due to the El Niño phenomenon.

Provincial Health Officer (PHO) 1 for Public Health, Dra. Ma. Socorro Colmenares–Quiñon, said that diarrhea, measles, Hepatitis A and heat stroke, among others, are prevalent during summer.

She confirmed Hepatitis A outbreak at Brgy. Zerrudo in Sara town. She said they have also monitored a rise in Hepatitis A cases at San Joaquin, Iloilo.

Quiñon said the Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Unit will validate the cases even as there are 22 Hepa A cases seen during her personal validation over the weekend.

In Sara, Quiñon said the water pump, where villagers get their water, is surrounded by pigpens and toilets.

She said residents were advised to ensure the potability of their drinking water.

Quiñon said her office is also gathering data from the municipal health officers on other diseases for the implementation of appropriate measures. (PNA)
