DSWD awards child-friendly LGUs, advocacy partners in W. Visayas

CITY, Jan. 29 (PNA) – The Department of Social Welfare and Development
Field Office 6 (DSWD-FO 6) marked its 59th founding anniversary with
the giving of recognition to child-friendly local government units
(LGUs) in Western Visayas.
The
LGUs have been chosen for their “advocacy on children’s welfare and for
making it on top of their agenda” thereby creating an environment that
is child friendly.
The
giving of recognition was in line with Executive Order 184, series of
1991, that establishes a Presidential Award for Child-Friendly City and
Municipalities.
The
awardees during the celebration that was held Wednesday afternoon
included the Municipality of New Lucena for 4th to 6th class
municipality; Jordan, Guimaras for third class municipality; Talisay
City, Negros Occidental for independent-component/chartered city and
Bacolod City for highly urbanized city (HUC).
Three
social workers who are handing court-related cases of children in
conflict with the law (CICL) were also recognized namely Gilga Noveros,
Rita Santes and Lourdes Dormido.
Meantime,
15 media practitioners who actively supported the agency in their
attempt to reach out to the grassroots and raise their awareness about
programs of the government through the DSWD were also recognized.
They
included Perla Lena of the Philippines News Agency; Lilibeth French and
Totei Villavert of the Philippine Information Agency; Lucy Montealto
and Runji Jamolo of DYLL, Radyo ng Bayan; Jun Tillaflor of the News
Express; Nowell Patrick Relatos, Divine Grace Cuello and Rod Jaen
Losbanes of Bombo Radyo; Montessa Grino of Panay News; Glenda
Sologastoa, Hublas; Lydia Pendon of the Manila Bulletin; Maricar
Calubiran, The News Today; and Jocel Huesca and Fabienne Paderes of
GMA.
Also
recognized was the SM City for its continued support of the various
activities of the agency by allowing them the use of its activity
center.
The agency’s anniversary celebration has for its theme “DSWD” Kaagapay at Gabay sa Kinabukasan.” (PNA)
