ILOILO CITY, Jan. 29 (PNA) – The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 6 (DSWD-FO 6) marked its 59th founding anniversary with the giving of recognition to child-friendly local government units (LGUs) in Western Visayas.

The LGUs have been chosen for their “advocacy on children’s welfare and for making it on top of their agenda” thereby creating an environment that is child friendly.

The giving of recognition was in line with Executive Order 184, series of 1991, that establishes a Presidential Award for Child-Friendly City and Municipalities.

The awardees during the celebration that was held Wednesday afternoon included the Municipality of New Lucena for 4th to 6th class municipality; Jordan, Guimaras for third class municipality; Talisay City, Negros Occidental for independent-component/chartered city and Bacolod City for highly urbanized city (HUC).

Three social workers who are handing court-related cases of children in conflict with the law (CICL) were also recognized namely Gilga Noveros, Rita Santes and Lourdes Dormido.

Meantime, 15 media practitioners who actively supported the agency in their attempt to reach out to the grassroots and raise their awareness about programs of the government through the DSWD were also recognized.

They included Perla Lena of the Philippines News Agency; Lilibeth French and Totei Villavert of the Philippine Information Agency; Lucy Montealto and Runji Jamolo of DYLL, Radyo ng Bayan; Jun Tillaflor of the News Express; Nowell Patrick Relatos, Divine Grace Cuello and Rod Jaen Losbanes of Bombo Radyo; Montessa Grino of Panay News; Glenda Sologastoa, Hublas; Lydia Pendon of the Manila Bulletin; Maricar Calubiran, The News Today; and Jocel Huesca and Fabienne Paderes of GMA.
