Lim issues order to curb influx of deadly fireworks, substandard Christmas accessories
MANILA,
Dec. 2 (PNA) -- Mayor Alfredo S. Lim has ordered strict monitoring of
all malls and street vendors in Manila to curb the possible influx of
deadly fireworks and substandard Christmas accessories, particularly
decorative lights that may endanger lives of the people and cause
damage to property.
The
mayor issued the order in the wake of reports that some unscrupulous
traders would be flooding the market with cheap fireworks and
pyrotechnic materials as well as decorative accessories to take
advantage of the coming Yuletide season and rake in big profits.
Lim
also directed all concerned city officials to inform the public of
defective products that may endanger their lives and even cause fires.
He
enjoined the citizenry to celebrate Christmas and New Year through
sharing and helping other people so that the outgoing year would end in
a more fruitful, productive and fulfilling way for them.
This
early, the mayor also warned policemen as well as gun owners to refrain
from using their firearms as a way of driving away evil spirits and
welcoming the New Year.
“Let us be productive instead and work hard for our future,” he said. (PNA)
