PGMA accepts Peru's invitation to attend APEC Summit on Nov. 22-23
MANILA,
Oct. 7 (PNA) -- The Ambassador of Peru to the Philippines Monday paid a
courtesy call on President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, personally handing
her the invitation letter from the Peruvian President for her to attend
the 16th Asia-Pacific Economic Conference (APEC) which will be hosted
by Peru in November.
President
Arroyo received Ambassador Velasco at the Music Room of Malacanang at
11 a.m. this morning, and accepted the letter invitation of Peruvian
President Allan Garcia Perez to the 16th Leaders Summit of the APEC
which will held on Nov. 22-23.
“President
Arroyo confirmed that she will attend the APEC meeting that will be
held in Lima, Peru,” enthused Ambassador Carlos Mendiola Velasco, who
is also his country’s ambassador to Thailand and Vietnam.
“She
(President Arroyo) is willing to meet my President (Peruvian President
Perez) to discuss issues of global agenda,” added the Peruvian
ambassador who was accompanied in his courtesy call on the President by
Francis Chua, Peru’s honorary consul-general in Manila.
The
APEC is composed of 21 economies around the Asia-Pacific region,
including the United States, Russia, Japan and Korea, said Ambassador
Velasco.
Last year’s APEC meeting was held in Sydney, while next year’s APEC meeting will be hosted by Singapore.
The
Peruvian ambassador also met with the newly-organized
Peruvian-Philippines Business Council this afternoon in Intramuros to
present and promote business opportunities that await them in his
