MANILA, Oct. 7 (PNA) -- The Ambassador of Peru to the Philippines Monday paid a courtesy call on President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, personally handing her the invitation letter from the Peruvian President for her to attend the 16th Asia-Pacific Economic Conference (APEC) which will be hosted by Peru in November.

President Arroyo received Ambassador Velasco at the Music Room of Malacanang at 11 a.m. this morning, and accepted the letter invitation of Peruvian President Allan Garcia Perez to the 16th Leaders Summit of the APEC which will held on Nov. 22-23.

“President Arroyo confirmed that she will attend the APEC meeting that will be held in Lima, Peru,” enthused Ambassador Carlos Mendiola Velasco, who is also his country’s ambassador to Thailand and Vietnam.

“She (President Arroyo) is willing to meet my President (Peruvian President Perez) to discuss issues of global agenda,” added the Peruvian ambassador who was accompanied in his courtesy call on the President by Francis Chua, Peru’s honorary consul-general in Manila.

The APEC is composed of 21 economies around the Asia-Pacific region, including the United States, Russia, Japan and Korea, said Ambassador Velasco.

Last year’s APEC meeting was held in Sydney, while next year’s APEC meeting will be hosted by Singapore.

The Peruvian ambassador also met with the newly-organized Peruvian-Philippines Business Council this afternoon in Intramuros to present and promote business opportunities that await them in his country. (PNA)
