African boxer arrived in Davao City

DAVAO CITY, Oct. 8 (PNA) -- World Boxing Council (WBC) international super bantamweight champion Sande Otieno arrived in Davao City Saturday night in preparation for his 12-round title defense against local hero Balweg "Davao Hitman" Bangoyan on October 10 at the Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Gym here.

The 33-year-old Otieno, a hero in his native Kenya and undefeated in 16 fights, earlier arrived in Manila following a 15-hour flight from Nairobi with a four-hour stopper in Doha, Qatar.

The African champion was accompanied by brother Nick Otieno and trainer Paul Otieno.

Nick Otieno himself will fight in the undercard of the Otieno-Bangoyan battle dubbed "Ring War in Davao" against Rexon Flores in a 10-round contest.

Jose Abad Santos Mayor Alexander Wangkay, who handles Bangoyan, accompanied Monday the fighters and their respective trainers in paying a courtesy call to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte.

Like Otieno, Bangoyan is also undefeated. The 21-year-old Filipino boxer boasts of a record of 12-0 with seven KOs. (PNA)
