By Lily O Ramos
MANILA,
July 31 (PNA) -- Another feather to Tarlac billiard icon Francisco
"Django" Bustamante who has been recently elevated to the Hall of Fame
by the Billiard Congress of America (BCA) by the US Billiard Media
Association.
Bustamante's
last world victory was the 9-Ball title in Doha, Qatar this year
enabled him to be named one of the world's best players.
Bustamante who belongs to the Puyat Sports stable was shocked upon being informed of his latest award.
"Really, but I'm still young at 46. This is something that seems out of this world for me," he gushed.
He added that this is a fulfillment of his one of his most cherished dreams.
“There
are two things that I have always dreamed of -- to become world
champion and be entered into the Hall of Fame. This year both dreams
came true. We all dream to be in the BCA Hall of Fame, so I am very
happy today.
"We are heroes in the Philippines, but for the American people to give me this recognition makes me feel very
proud,” he said.
Bustamante
is the second Filipino to bestowed the BCA Hall of Fame award. The
first was Django's best friend, Efren "Bata" Reyes, who was inducted in
2003.
The
previous awardees in the Meritorious Service are Terry Bell and Larry
Hubbart, founders of the American Pool Players Association league system
in 1979.
Bustamante,
Bell at 66 and Hubbart at 69, will be formally inducted into the BCA
Hall of Fame on October 21 during ceremonies in conjunction with the US
Open 9-Ball Championship in Chesapeake, Virginia. (PNA)
