MANILA,
Sept. 27 (PNA) - The Philippines is one among the 45 countries that has
confirmed its participation in the first Asian Beach Games in 2008,
Bali, Indonesia scheduled on October 17-26.
Three
more countries, namely Bhutan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan have expressed
enthusiasm to join the first-ever beach competition for Asian nations.
Deputy
operational director of Bali Asian Beach Games Organizing Committee
(BABGOC), Ida Bagus Antara said in a communique from Denpasar that
Philippine participation is a good sign, considering the fact that it
is a member country of the Association of Southeast Nations (ASEAN).
Antara
said that the combined efforts of the Philippines and Indonesia will be
a force to reckon with in putting up a sports show that can further
unite the ASEAN region.
The Philippine delegation will be composed of 116-- divided into 84 athletes, 28 trainers and coaches and four medical staff.
Currently,
there are 5,000 registered athletes out of a total of 7,200. Together
with officials and foreign government officials, about 16,000 people
will be visiting Bali during the 2008 Asian Beach Games.
There
will be 45 events to be played in the Games to be held in four key
municipalities of Bali, with Denpasar as the main venue. (PNA) |
