MANILA, Dec. 1 (PNA) -– Five days after the election, the new Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) board sets special meeting on Tuesday to tackle important issues, including the national sports associations (NSAs) presently plagued with leadership disputes.

”We have to resolve issues concerning the NSAs so that the new POC leadership can start the 2009 with focus on programs and activities regarding the country’s preparation for the Southeast Asian Games and other foreign competitions,” said reelected POC president Jose Cojuangco.

Among the NSAs which have problems include archery, badminton, bowling, karate, swimming, wrestling and wushu.

The POC board will also discuss the amendment of the POC charter for possible inclusion of a woman sports leader in the POC committee and about the doping issue.

”The International Olympic Committee (IOC) wants every national Olympic committee (NOC) to include these two amendments,” Cojuangco said.

Aside from Cojuangco, other elected board members are Monico Puentevella as chairman; Manny Lopez, first vice president; Mario Tanchangco, second vice president; Julian Camacho, treasurer; Corrina Benipayo-Mojico, auditor; and four elect-members Mark Joseph, Leonora Brawner, Dave Carter and Jeffrey Tamayo.
