MANILA,
Jan. 8 (PNA) – World bowling champion Biboy Rivera tries to duplicate
his performance last year in South Korea as he banners the six-man
Philippine team that will compete in the Tournament of Champions
beginning January 16 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Rivera
will be joined by Chester King and Benshir Layoso while the women’s
squad is composed of Lovelle Catalan, Apple Posadas and United
States-trained Krizzia Tabora.
“The athletes are in good condition and are excited to compete,” said national coach Nico Valderrama.
“In fact, (Tabora) just came from the US where she trained under world-caliber coaches,” he added.
The 18-year-old Tabora honed her skills at the Kegel Training Center in Lake Wales , Florida .
Besides
the Tournament of Champions, events lined up for the RP keglers are the
Asian Bowling Federation Tour, First Asian Youth Games in Singapore in
June, World Games Bowling Championship in Taiwan in July and the 25th
Southeast Asian Games in Laos in December.
The ladies team will also see action in the prestigious World Women’s Championship in Las Vegas from July 24 to August 2.
“We
want to participate in as many tournaments as possible to upgrade our
standard,” said Philippine Bowling Congress secretary-general and
former world champion Bong Coo. (PNA)
