German cruise ship docks at Iloilo Port
ILOILO
CITY, March 12 (PNA) – A German cruise ship carrying some 300 European
tourist-passengers docked at the Iloilo Port around noontime Thursday to
visit some of historical sites in the province and city.
Iloilo City Tourism and Development Office head, Benito
Jimena said the cruise ship came from Cebu and dropped by the Iloilo
Port before proceeding to Boracay Island.
The tourists on-board five big buses visited the city’s
central business district, which has been identified as heritage site by
the Iloilo City Heritage Council, the museo and the Miag-ao Church
which was also in the World Heritage List.
Jimena said the visit is a manifestation that Iloilo as a
heritage site has already been recognized worldwide.
“This is the first time that a cruise ship from Europe has
come to Iloilo City just to see what we have here in terms of culture
and heritage,” he said.
Their visit was arranged by one shipping company that
coordinated with Bern Palacios, a local tour operator who made
arrangements with the city government for them to be accommodated here.
The city tourism, likewise, according to Jimena has
installed two booths at the Iloilo Port to sell some of Iloilo Dinagyang
items for their souvenirs. (PNA)
