Iloilo City fast becoming a ‘festival city’ – Treñas
ILOILO
CITY, March 13 (PNA) – Mayor Jerry P. Treñas tagged the metropolis as
"festival city" while hailing the successful edition of the 38th Iloilo
Paraw Regatta Festival during its thanksgiving luncheon Friday.
“The festival this year is one of the best, if not the
best,” said the city’s chief executive.
Treñas said the Iloilo Paraw Regatta Foundation, Inc.
(IPRFI) and the committees involved in holding the festivities February
15-21 “thought of new and improved activities that attract more and more
people.”
“I believe we have displayed the kind of cooperation and
unity needed to showcase this wonderful performance of Paraw Regatta,”
he stressed.
The mayor, together with IPRFI Chairperson Manuel Villa Jr.,
gave out certificates of appreciation to sponsors and partners who
helped the city government and IPRFI achieve a laudable festival this
year.
The city police was also credited for maintaining a peaceful
and orderly celebration.
The Paraw Regatta Festival, a sailboat competition, is
staged every February following Dinagyang Festival held every January.
The former was adjudged best sports tourism event of the
country last year, while the latter is a hall of fame awardee as best
tourism event by the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines.
